Adoption of an upright position during delivery. The mother may stand on her own two feet–literally and metaphorically. She can grip at any height, and when leaning back can place her feet onto the spiral. While reclined, pressure is relieved from the pelvic floor.
The upright posture centres the lumbar vertebral column with the pelvis, resulting in a straighter birth canal.This encourages dilation of the cervix and descent of the baby into the pelvis, accelereting and easing delivery.
